If you find this software useful, or would like to express your appreciation and support for my work, please consider buying something for me off of my Amazon.com wishlist. Several thousand people download software I've written from this site every month, and almost nobody has ever bothered with a thank you, let alone a contribution from my wish list. Please consider that many of us write free software because of a love for the community and an enjoyment of the challenge -- a large part of the motivation to continue writing and improving software comes from kkowing that it's appreciated. The latest version of QuickAccess is 1.2, updated on 11/15/98. QuickAccess, like many of my tools, was born of frustration. Quicken is a wonderful program for managing your finances, and in fact, I've even worked for Intuit in a previous life. The problem is that I'd like to run certain types of "what if" scenarios and graphs in MS Excel using my Quicken data. One night, I finally got sick of constantly switching between Quicken and Excel to enter in my numbers. So I went surfing on the 'net, thinking someone, somewhere, had to have run into this -- after all, I can't be the only one who wants to do this. After a cursory search through the newsgroups and search engines, I basically found out that yes, other people have this problem too, and nobody's really come up with a recent solution (I noticed some people mentioned some old solutions from the late '80s and early '90s, but they didn't really apply to my situation). I also found a lovely little resource for Quicken which had some documentation for an undocumented DDE interface for Quicken. So I set to work, reading through the documentation and implementing a way to access Quicken conviniently from Excel. The result is QuickAccess. QuickAccess is essentially an add-in for Excel that provides several new functions that can pull data in from Quicken. Documentation as well as an example Excel workbook are available. QuickAccess has been tested with Quicken 5.0, 6.0, '97, '98, and '99. Enjoy it, and please drop me a line if you use it or find it useful. I'd love to hear any feedback. |
