- Time for a site refresh

If you find this software useful, or would like to
express your appreciation and support for my work,
please consider buying something for me off of my
Amazon.com wishlist. Several
thousand people download software I've written from
this site every month, and almost nobody has ever
bothered with a thank you, let alone a contribution
from my wish list. Please consider that many of us
write free software because of a love for the
community and an enjoyment of the challenge -- a large
part of the motivation to continue writing and
improving software comes from kkowing that it's
appreciated.
In the everlasting search for the ideal email and contact
management system, assuming one exists, I found Outlook 98. It's
no secret that I'm no huge fan of the boys at Redmond, but I
have to admit that Outlook 98 is a
great package. Now if it only ran under Linux...
Unfortunately, as I convinced more and more of my friends to
switch over to Outlook 98, I ran
into some problems importing data from other packages, such as
Symatec's ACT!. So
to help out my buddies, I wrote a little VBScript script
to import contacts and contact notes into Outlook 98. Outlook's importer
only imports contacts, not any of it's associated data. Well,
a lot of my buddies happen to be sales people who put in a lot
of contact notes, hence the necessity for my little package.
In order to import contacts and contact information into Outlook 98, you
need to make sure you have a few things on your system:
Once you have all of the above, simply download the
ACT!-Outlook scripts, from http://www.macgyver.org/software/outlook/act-outlook.zip.
Unzip the file and run the scripts. Make sure you run the
script to import contacts before the script to import
contact information. The reasons for this should be
obvious. I hope. :-) When you run either script it will ask
you which folder you wish to import your contacts (or contact
notes depending on the script) into. This is the default
folder collection, not Contacts or
some such. The second prompt is where you specify
which contact or journal folder to use (depending on the
script).
